About Employee Benefits Specialists
Employee Benefits Specialists, Inc., was established in Houston, Texas in August of 1983. Gregg Slape, owner and President has been involved in the group insurance industry for the past 35 years. During these years, the first ten were spent in various capacities with several insurance companies. The last 25 years have been dedicated to expanding available products and growing the client base of his agency to where it is today.
Group benefits have changed significantly over the 35 years we have been in this industry. We believe our ability to change with the needs of our clients has been the hallmark of our success.
Our client base ranges from 2 lives to 3,500. We’ve delivered to these same clients, regardless of size, expertise which keeps them on the cutting edge with their benefits.
Steven C. Rhatigan, a Chartered Lifetime Assistance Planner and a Certified Estate
Planner, has been in the financial and estate planning profession since 1978. In the early
80's he began working with the special needs community. He soon became a prominent
advocate for issues dealing with these individuals and helped build the national
organization Estate Planning for Persons with Disabilities and was a founding member
of the National Institute for Life Planning. He now devotes as much time as possible to
helping families cope with the long term care and finances of their disabled dependants'.
In 2006, he was nominated to serve on The President's Committee for People with
Intellectual Disabilities. This is the primary disability advisory council to the President
and serves as a conduit between the special needs community and the federal agencies
responsible for all need based care and support programs. On May 8, 2008, Steve was
named as Chairman for the committee.
He has served as President of the Mental Health Association of Houston and the Houston Association of Insurance and Financial Professionals and served a three-year
term on the TX Dept. Mental Health & Mental Retardation Advisory Board. He currently
is involved with many advocacy groups in various roles.
